Zoner Photo Studio has a state-of-the-art interface that lets you organize the workspace to suit the needs of your photo work, no matter what it is: browsing images, editing/sorting/archiving photos, or anything else. Thanks to Zoner Photo Studio's FlexibleFace technology, the individual portions of the workspace can be rearranged freely. You can, for example, have two thumbnail windows, one atop the other, with one showing an ordinary folder and the other showing the search results folder.
Interface Skins
There's no need to leave your Zoner Photo Studio always looking the same if you don't want to. Besides the various window settings, you can fit the environment of Zoner Photo Studio to your taste by choosing a look for the program - a "skin." With a good-looking or cool-looking unusual skin, you may find your work more fun.
Since version 8, Zoner Photo Studio has contained a special skin called "classic Windows." This skin is both similar in appearance to the Windows 2000 operating system and more similar to standard Windows behavior than the other skins are; e.g. the positions and behaviors of menus are closer to standard Windows controls.
The Browser Window
The Browser window serves not only for browsing among files, as its name might imply, but also for file edits - both edits to single files and batch edits, including batch lossless rotation of JPEG images and batch assignment of keywords via drag-and-drop. You can have a practically unlimited number of Browser windows open at once. Each Browser window includes most of Zoner Photo Studio's functions for working with images. ZPS does not contain classical menus. Rather, its functions are grouped into five menus by the phase of work with images they are used for: Acquire, Image, Information, Organize, and Publish. An independent (undocked) Browser window can be put to good use for easily dragging and dropping graphics into programs of your choice.
The Editor
The Editor window offers other tools for edits to individual photos, such as cropping, rotation, retouching, and more. You can also use the Editor to view photos. You can either run the Editor in an independent window, or display it as part of the ZPS workspace. If you have ZPS associated with image file formats, the Editor will become your double-click viewer for image files.
The Navigator and Preview Windows
The next two windows are tied into the Browser. The Navigator window can be used to set what will be shown in the active Browser window, and it can have any one of eight modes:
- Tree - This mode shows the complete structure of the folders on your computer.
- Pictures - This takes you to the folder where you store your pictures.
- ZPS Folders - A shortcut to the folder that contains all of Zoner Photo Studio's special folders (4-8).
- Albums – Access to the albums you've created in Zoner Photo Studio.
- Web albums – Special albums containing Web galleries, with support for synchronization with an FTP server.
- CD compilations - A folder of compilations in preparation for being burned to CD.
- Media Archive - A folder containing indexes of photo CDs, etc made using ZPS's Media Archive function.
- Search Results – The results of searches are automatically saved to this folder as Windows shortcuts.
The Preview pane can show more than just previews, but all of its views provide extra information - a preview or something else - about the picture currently selected in the Browser. The Preview pane can be in any of three modes:
- Preview – The default mode; displays a preview of the picture that is active in the Browser.
- Information – In the Information mode, EXIF data that matches the filter you have set is displayed here.
- Histogram – In the Histogram mode, the histogram for the current image is displayed here.
